EYELID SURGERY (BLEPHAROPLASTY)

Youthful eyes are the best mirrors for a youthful soul

Genetics, environment, and age can all give the eyes a permanently aged or fatigued expression. Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, helps rejuvenate the appearance of the eyes so the face looks youthful and fresh. By removing excess skin and fat from the upper and lower eyelids.

Dr. Tiryaki in London can improve the appearance of under-eye bags, dark circles, and crepey skin with blepharoplasty, resulting in eyes that look young and lively.

I had lower eyelid surgery 3 months ago. During consultation, Tunç Tiryaki offered me tissue transplant to support my eyelids and to boost volume. I was worried about having unnatural appearance because of the fat injection. But I trusted Mr. Tiryaki since he was the most self-confident doctor I have ever met. And now, I am so delighted because of my incredibly natural look. People notice regeneration on my face, but nobody understands that I have fat injection. Mr. Tiryaki is just right person to have this operation since he is a precious doctor.

WHAT IS BLEPHAROPLASTY?

The effects of ageing often become visible around the eyes earlier than anywhere else, at about the age of 35.
The skin over the eyes is the thinnest on our bodies and is therefore first to wrinkle.
Over the years, the skin becomes even looser as the cheek and brow bones retract, affecting the placement of the eyebrows, the eyelids, the eye muscles, and the fat layer. Loose and sagging eyelids result in a tired appearance. This can be corrected by a simple adjustment in which only the excess skin is removed.

Eyelid surgery heals quickly, meaning satisfying results with a minimum of disruption.

Rejuvenate the face with one simple surgery.

Blepharoplasty with Dr. Tunç Tiryaki

Dr. Tiryaki will carefully evaluate your eyelids to help you determine whether this simple removal of excess skin

is enough, or if a more extensive restoration of the underlying bone is necessary. You may choose to have

an upper blepharoplasty, a lower blepharoplasty, or a combined upper and lower blepharoplasty.

What is Upper Eyelid Surgery or Blepharoplasty?

Excess skin on the upper eyelid can collect on top of the eyes, damaging the overall aesthetic of the eye area and sometimes even collapsing onto the eye and impacting vision. This can be resolved with a simple procedure, which not only brings back a youthful and vivid expression to the eyes, but also eliminates related vision disorders. The surgical incision is completely hidden in the natural crease of the upper eyelid.

What is Lower Blepharoplasty?

Aged or sagging skin under the eyes can give the face a lifeless, tired expression. Under-eye bags can cause a person to look haggard and sleep deprived, and circles under the eyes can be so dark that it is impossible to mask them without heavy makeup. Hollow or sunken eyes can create a shadow effect and the appearance of a dark, purple ring. These problems, which may develop due to age, genetic factors, bad nutrition, stress, or insomnia, can be easily solved by a lower blepharoplasty. The surgical incision is hidden directly underneath the lower lashes.

How is blepharoplasty performed?

Blepharoplasty is a minimally invasive procedure, and Dr Tiryaki’s experience and expertise will ensure that

you achieve your most vibrant and youthful look without pain or visible incisions. By removing excess skin

and herniated fat tissue, we restore and rejuvenate the appearance of the eyelids. Blepharoplasty incisions

are made to follow the natural lines of the eyelids and are therefore entirely hidden once healed.

Blepharoplasty is generally performed under sedation or local anaesthesia. Simple upper blepharoplasty

can be performed under local anaesthesia.

Who should consider blepharoplasty?

While many eyelid issues are a result of ageing, lower or upper eyelid surgery is ideal for any person, at any age,

who is unhappy with the appearance of their eye area. Although excess skin and fat in the eye area

can be corrected temporarily with procedures like Toxin treatments injections, eyelid surgery provides

a permanent solution.

How long is the recovery time for blepharoplasty?

The patient may return home the same day and will be able to read and watch TV comfortably on the following day.

It is possible to return to normal life within one or two days with the aid of sunglasses. Sutures are removed within

one week of surgery. Once the sutures are removed, the oedema and light bruising that might occur around

the eye become easier to hide.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

As with all surgical procedures, patients must abstain from taking blood thinners and limit both alcohol consumption and smoking as much as possible. Ideally, a patient should abstain entirely from smoking and drinking alcohol in the last couple of days preceding surgery.

Lower eyelid surgery takes around an hour, whereas upper eyelid surgery only takes about 30 minutes. If the lower eyelid and upper eyelid surgeries are done together, the operation will usually be complete in 90 minutes.

You can return home the same day and can read and watch TV comfortably on the next. After an aesthetic eyelid operation, short thin bands are placed in the eye area, but there is no need to keep the eyes closed. During the healing period we advise patients to use a high pillow. You should also avoid exposing the eyes to direct sunlight, so be sure to wear sunglasses and please do not plan a beach holiday soon after the operation. The patient can usually return to normal life after resting for one or two days. As with all surgical procedures, you should stop smoking for the duration of the two weeks following the operation, and you should not participate in any activities that will increase blood pressure.

There are no minimum or maximum age limits specified for eyelid surgeries. Minor issues with the eye area in younger patients can usually be solved by non-surgical procedures. However, as age advances or as the issues become more severe, non-surgical procedures become insufficient. In these cases, the only real solution is eyelid surgery.

There should be no visible scars. Excess skin from the upper eyelid is removed and sutured into the crease that is already present in this area. If there is excess skin in the lower eyelid, the skin is opened up with a line just below the eyelashes, the herniated fat is removed, and the lower eyelid is secured. No scars are visible since the suture line is kept hidden beneath the eyelashes.

Eyelid surgery can be performed alone or in collaboration with other facial operations, such as a facelift. Eyelid surgery on its own provides a certain amount of revitalisation to the upper area of the face, but integrating this with surgery on the forehead, the brows, or any other sagging areas can provide very satisfying results for the patient. Dr Tiryaki can help guide you toward the best options for your individual needs.

Most patients report little to no pain. There may be a certain amount of swelling in the first few days following surgery.
