” Turn back the clock 10 years and see a natural-looking and beautiful you in the mirror. “

What is a Mini Face-lift?

A mini-facelift is a much lighter, less invasive surgery that produces a younger looking you (most people feel they look around 10 years younger), reversing the natural signs of ageing that commonly take place during your 40s and 50s.

The operation is performed around the mid-face and jawline and involves the removal of excessive skin (that has sagged during the natural ageing process). Operational scars are unnoticeable as they are hidden on anatomical creases and within the hairline.

The operation usually takes between 1 and 1.5 hours and is performed using local anaesthetic and sedation. A General Anaesthetic is not required for this procedure, however, Dr Tiryaki may recommend an overnight stay in hospital if it is best for your recovery.

Post-operative recovery is relatively fast with bandages being removed in around 2 days and your normal day to day routine can be resumed within 7-10 working days.

Post-operative pain is rare and any discomfort is handled with simple painkillers. It is normal for there to be some bruising, but this is minor.

How does it work?

With a mini-facelift, incisions are much shorter (resulting in smaller scars) and rather than lifting the skin (the standard technique for a full face-lift) sub-dermal tissues are restored to their original position. In addition, stem-cell techniques can be used to restore elasticity (see stem-cell therapy for more information) resulting in a younger appearance without changing the patients’ natural expression.

Who should consider the mini-facelift?

As most natural sagging and loss of volume in the face occurs during the 40s and 50s, the mini-facelift is usually recommended for patients over 50 years of age.

Guidelines for surgery

The following guidelines apply for all types of surgery
Use of all blood thinners should be stopped (under guidance from Dr Tiryaki)
Smoking should stop from the date of the operation until 10-14 days after the treatment. Any activities that will increase blood pressure should also be halted.

Frequently Asked Questions

As with all surgical procedures, it is recommended to stop using blood thinners before the operation.

Smoking should be avoided for 10 to 14 days after the surgery as well as activities which might increase blood pressure for 5 to 7 days.

The Mini-Lift operation is not about creating a new face but rather restoring tissues that have deformed over time

The results of the Mini-Lift operation are permanent. After the Mini-Lift surgery, ten years may be taken off the appearance, but the aging process continues as usual from then on.

Yes. Depending on the need of the patient, it can be performed together with other operations (eye lid, stem cell, nose surgeries, fat injections etc.).

Patients do not experience any pain after these surgeries but may encounter a sensation of pressure or tension. These feelings completely dissolve in a few days time.

  2. It would be useful to know what the difference is between this mini facelift and the deep plane facelift? I’m curious about the longevity of the mini facelift? Can we expect a 7-10 year result (even though the ageing process obviously still continues)
    Thank you

    1. The reason for our skin laxity and droopy face is not just the sagging of the skin, ageing starts from bone structure : bones are resorbed during ageing process, causing the skin to drape over it. This loss of bone and tissue volume on face creates the sagging effects which can be reversed by face lift operations.

The mini face lift uses the SMAS technique which lifts the skin and subdermal layers and tissues of the face, pulling the tissues upwards, repositioning the muscles to their original place, and getting rid of the excess skin. The mini face lift does not address the upper part of the face, as this area can best be improved and lifted by botox injections. Lifting the forehead and upper face may result in unnatural proportions, so Dr Tiryaki does not prefer a total face lift.

Neither he uses the deep plane technique, which is old-school and very aggressive, as the deeper levels of facia above the bone are also separated. In his experience, this technique results in very long healing time, unnatural and unproportional appearances.
Therefore, Dr Tiryaki only uses SMAS technique for his mini face lifts, and he will usually combine it with fat transfer, which is an autonomous procedure from the patient’s own body, resulting in no complications or side effects, giving the most natural looks. a younger version of one’s self. Face lift will take you back 10-15 years in age, and you continue ageing from there. There are patients who do facelift in their 50s and repeat as they approach 70s using the same incision lines. The lines are usually at the anatomical folds, and can be hidden at the hairline. Downtime is 2 weeks, as all stitches are out by the 12th day, and swelling will reside by 3-4 weeks time.
