Never again feel the need to hide your ears behind your hair

Overly prominent or unusually large ears can be a major source of insecurity for both children and adults, especially as they can often be a target for childhood teasing. Otoplasty, or ear aesthetics, offers simple, safe solutions in the form of either prominent ear surgery or ear reduction surgery.

Dr. Tiryaki restores harmony and balance to your face with natural proportional shape and position. After conducting a thorough examination of your ears, Dr. Tiryaki carefully provides you the most natural and desired result with his correction of prominent ear and otoplasty techniques.

Dr. Tiryaki is magical and has truly given me back my life, my confidence and my smile. I had otoplasty surgery because I was very uncomfortable with my ears for many years, then I looked up otoplasty surgeons and Dr. Tiryaki was one that popped up, Luckily he was the first to call back to arrange consultation, and I’m so happy he did because I am certain that I would not have gotten the same results with another plastic surgeon. I can not thank him, from start to finish he was fast and very professional. Perfect.

Prominent ear operations aim to reduce the angle between the ear and the head to match a standard angle of about 30 to 35 degrees. Ear reduction surgery aims to decrease the size of the ear and standardise the shape so that it no longer attracts notice.

A safe and efficient procedure, otoplasty can even be suitable for children.

How is a Otoplasty performed?

During prominent ear surgery, Dr. Tiryaki, a board certified plastic surgeon, will reduce the angle between the ear and the side of the head, placing small incisions behind the ear to rotate and suture the cartilage into a more favourable position.

During ear reduction surgery, Dr Tiryaki uses small incisions behind the ear to fold, rotate, and suture the cartilage, creating a well-proportioned result with an aesthetically pleasing size and shape.

Who is an ideal candidate for an otoplasty procedure?

Although prominent and oversized ears can seem like a minor issue to those who don’t have them, this issue is well known to negatively affect self-esteem in many individuals, including children. Anyone with ear shape concerns, from very minor projection to extreme ear prominence and size, is a suitable candidate for otoplasty surgery.

How long is the recovery time for an otoplasty procedure?

The healing period is generally about five days. Compression wraps must be worn for two days,

and Dr. Tiryaki recommends using a tennis headband for a few additional days

after the wraps are removed.

What if you need more?

The following guidelines apply for all the types of surgery.
•You should stop using all kinds of blood thinners.
•You should stop smoking within two weeks following the operation. You should not do any activities that will increase blood pressure.
•You can return home the same day.
•There will be minimal incisions, so no visible scars.
•You can take a shower after the compression wraps are removed, however, you should not use a hair dryer for few days following the operation.
•You can start exercising 2-3 weeks after the operation.
•The minimum age for this operation is 5-6 years old when the ears have fully developed. There are no maximum age limitations.

As with all surgical procedures, patients must abstain from taking blood thinners and limit both alcohol consumption and smoking as much as possible. Ideally, a patient should abstain entirely from smoking and drinking alcohol in the last couple of days preceding surgery.

Patients can usually return to normal life in about five days. Compression wraps should remain on both ears for two days, and we recommend wearing a tennis headband for a few days after the wraps are removed.  This will reduce swelling and prevent the sutures from coming into contact with the pillow at night. Hair can be washed once the compression wraps come off, but you should not use a hairdryer for several days. Patients can start light exercise after two weeks and return to regular exercise after three weeks. As with all surgical procedures, you should stop smoking for the duration of the two weeks following the operation, and you should not participate in any activities that will increase blood pressure.

Patients should expect some swelling and redness in the five or so days following surgery. Pain should be minimal.

Plastic surgery is generally not recommended for people under the age of 18, although prominent ear operations can be carried out as soon as children complete their ear development. External ear development in children is completed at 5 to 6 years, at which point the ear has grown to its permanent size. Therefore, the minimum age for these operations is 5 to 6 years. There are no maximum age limitations.

As all incisions are made behind the ear flap, any scars will be hidden entirely behind the ear.
